From Vikki:
‘Mijo’ is the first painting that I did when I retired and moved to the San Diego area. The term ‘Mijo’ means ‘beloved son.’

San Diego has a large Mexican population. Few speak English. Many cross our borders illegally, at risk of their lives, for minimal pay jobs few Americans would even accept. They live in shadow and fear evading U.S. immigration authorities.
They are, by all definition, the ‘Anonymous’ residents of Southern California .

‘Mijo’ is based on a family I saw shopping for their week’s groceries ‘at a local liquor store‘. (The children wait outside while mother shops.)

The original is part of my personal collection but prints are available in various size. Contact me through The Red Chair Gallery link.

beautiful. a good reminder that all anonymous are not faceless…… and to look and really see

Thanks Marianne and so true. Anonymous faces are not always hidden.

Another wonderful piece Vikki! This idea was my first reaction to Anonymous, the many nameless people out there that I have to wonder…If you know someone’s name, do they then stop being anonymous? How much do you need to know about someone before they are no longer anonymous?

As always your works are worlds, rich rich worlds of their own. Color, line and light make your work come to life. Beauty-Full. I openly envy your skill and so honestly approachable mastery.

I admire your ability to capture on canvas subject matter so poignantly timely and politically relevant, while my tendency is to focus primarily on themes relevant only to (call me self-centered!) me.

your work captured within the canvas tells a story upon a story. Often marvel at just what your all about; does your mind ever rest? Love the Work!

    Hi Vikki,
I’ve always liked this painting. It reminds me of a “Sari-Sari” store in the Philippines. I also love the boy’s angry facial expression with his tight fist on his lap. It gives me an impression that he doesn’t want anybody looking at him right now.

    Vikki,
I think this is a wonderful composition. I especially like the door to the right. The colors are rich and vivid as well. A beautiful painting!
