From Vikki:
I shall tell you the story of Monsieur Repaer Mirg. He was a French gent that would visit our quaint little town every Christmas…….
…..Now I had grown up in this town and saw this jolly round man come and go over all my years. I always enjoyed the spirit he brought with him like everyone did, but there was something else that would happen every Christmas on Monsieur Mirg arrival. One of the town’s people would die. Granted a natural death..but none the less a death occurred every Christmas and always after Monsieur Mirg’s visitation to the soon to be deceased.
……………….

    Vikki,
I am enchanted with the light in his eyes and want to touch his perfectly bald head!!!!

    Thanks Rusty,
Men and their bald heads are like women and their fat tummies. Revealing it is only for the brave. and bold.

    Yea, and I admire both.

I read your story on Inferno on Friday, I didn’t put the two together (I didn’t read your statement last night). You painted him perfectly enchanting, he’s only doing his job. There’s no malice. Disturbing.

I love characters that come across against type-casting. (Still remember all the people, in my younger days who expressed shock in that I really didn’t “look like a dirty old man”). There’s something perfectly charming about this guy, especially in the face of your “Inferno” piece that goes with him. Something tells me we’d all be better off with this guy in our lives, rather than how I usually imagine him. Great good job as usual, leaving me jealous that I’m not a genius at portraiture as you so obviously are.

Thanks Rusty and William- There’s a famous old Twilight Zone show about an elderly women who locked herself away from the world because she was SO fearful of dieing. She wouldn’t allow anyone into her home- fearing one may be the Grim Reaper.

A young wounded soldier fell wounded at her doorstep . Quite reluctantly she let him in to help him. (A very young Robert Redf0rd played the roll)

He finally admitted to her he was the Grim Reaper and had come to take her. It was really one of the most endearing stories and stayed with me all my life. ‘Death came quietly and with kindest face of all.’

Thus my stimlus for this little tail of a different sort.

Awesome reveal Vikki!! Love the stories as well that sparked this wonderful piece of artwork. Your paintings are always so very beautiful and lifelike with so much detail. And if he is the grim reaper, even though he looks fun and jolly, I hope he does not visit this Christmas : )

Vikki, this is such a wonderful painting! So beautifully painted. I love how you captured his face and hand. Everything works in the painting!

Thanks Jfay. We’z got da booty now! and thanks for your comment on the painting. No I agree. I’m not ready for him to knock on my door either.

And thanks Mary Mary. Happy characters are always such fun to do.

This is just IT. This is the image that carry around to signify that the Holidays have arrived. Yes do love the story behind this yet have to reach up and rub his head Vikki! Have to smile when first seeing him and he leaves you with this same SMILE.

what am taken aback from is swear this same top hat was in the gift shoppe window at the hospital. Many a trip my dance partner and I took down there to see the Holiday fare being bartered. There in the window at the side of the shoppe was a top hat that looked JUST like this with evergreen and berries resting in the windows snow glitter with mock flocked trees behind.
