Very Turbulent and firey Ray. I wasn’t aware you had more abstract works. Yet as I look at this – I can see the detail edging between the sky and mountains. This is really a beautiful piece.
It appears you did a dry brushing and palette knife with the sky?

yes thats right vikki! and the mountains are just palette knife. the client wanted a painting for his girlfriend – a figurative sunrise! have you guys ever tried to paint a sunrise realistically? after 4 paintovers and 3 weeks of work, and all that for a mere 700 dollars i decided just to follow my intuition and paint abstract/impressionistic and it worked the girlfriend loves the painting!! it was a risk, but it worked!

I think landscapes and sunrise are the single most difficult thing to paint! And yes I’m sure as you can tell, I’ve tried and failed numerous times. And I also think abstracts are really difficult to do well- so when I see something like this I can thoroughly appreciate the struggle and reward when it comes together beautifully.

Beautiful piece. The title is very well chosen. I love minimal landscapes.
