Ah, milk-bath pardner (Johnny is wondering when we’re having the next one, and he has his thong ready)…

Having once had a rather morbid fascination with poisons, especially the kinds that could be found as near as my garden, I love this succinct says-so-much piece, not to mention the photograph on which it’s based.

And, as your story was “up” this morning, even before I was, I was able to read it, too. Stupid brute of a husband! Although, I did, knowing about the orphanages of the time (no — not old enough to have been in one; is that a double negative?!), find myself feeling sorry for the children.

Keep up the good work Renaissance woman, and I shall keep on enjoying it.

Such intricate work! Humor and horror rolled into one. Every picture tells a story, it’s just that some do it better than others. Beautiful.
Thanks for the comments on Vertigo.

    Hi Mister Wilkins!
Thanks and isn’t Marianne’s photo work extraordinary? That’s exactly how I felt the first I saw it.

I got to know her prior to the Challenge through blogging. You should just contact her direct. (I have her email) She’s a member of the Challenge also and a wonderful collage artist. I’m sure she knows you also from the theme galleries and would welcome you writiing her.

    Hi My Shower love!

Back at you. I love your work and stories and SO look forward to your submissions.

The thing that surprised me the most with this concept was the image itself is really so innocent and peaceful- Yet when we see the word ‘poison’ it’s shocking and disconcerting and tells a whole different story. Its like we try to find some logic for it and we can’t. I thought adding the tea cup was the clincher.

And yes…. poison is the choice of every lovely murderess. Vanquishing rats is important work. LOL

    Hi Ray S.
I loved Vertigo… talk about telling a story and the image just draws you down into it.

You know I actually write my stories after I’ve created the painting. I try to come up with something that might be unique way to present them. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, but I have a lot of fun in the process.

WoW! Vikki, you are such a talented artist. The darkness in this painting tickles me :)

Thanks Lisa. Within the shadow lies secrets. he, he.

The tea cup is the nice touch. Especially the chaotic (turbulent) pattern of the glaze.

The way the light washes over the subject is eerie, as if by divine direction….

Apparently, rats make really great pets (!?) I agree with what has already been said, of course, …and what kept me looking, too, was the detail of what is in the jar. Did it take you a while?

  • 12 vikki // Jan 19, 2010 at 12:12 pm

Hi Sarah- Rats do make excellent pets and they’re as intelligent, loving and loyal as dogs. And they’re not predatory or aggressive. Isn’t that something? They get such a bad rap when they’re only trying to survive.

This painting really didn’t take that long. Maybe 10-12 hour at the most. I did the jar first and the rest came along pretty quickly. I don’t know if that’s rice or some sort of seed. Marianne was actually at that shed and took the original photo. She may know.
