From Gail:There is a lot of symbolism in this painting, which was researched over a five year period. It represents my views on the journey we all take in this life, from both a spiritual aspect and a more “realistic” one. I used the graphic shapes as a representation of the four stages of life, one rising out of the experiences of the other. I wanted a juxtaposition of the eye, bouncing between the “realistic” picture plane and the shapes that hover over it, to represent our own contrasting views on where we should focus our attentions as we journey through life.

Hi Gail. Welcome to your first Challenge!
I was absolutely taken-a-back the first time I saw this I really like your stylization and symbolism. ( I got to see this as a large jpg.) You’ve achieved the delicate and intricate detail so reminiscent of Master Asian silk screen painters. It’s really a gorgeous work!

This is so lovely and magical. And yes, it does also remind me of something from a Master Asian screen painter. So delicate – I could stare in amazement at this for hours – so beautiful.

Thank you for your comments, Vikki, Jfay and Rusty. This was an introspective and transformational piece, done over a period of five years, during which I helped take care of my Dad. It was finally finished – to honor him and his life.

Beautiful. I lived in Hong Kong for 9 years and this so reminds me of the chinese tapestries I saw there. Lovely soft colours and flowing movement.

As others have noted the strong symbolic work in this piece grabs you and then is absorbed within your being. Gail; am in awe of your work and the thought process behind it. Congratulations on this work and very sure will see it more down the road.

My eyes enjoyed their journey from the bottom to the top. And I also appreciate the symbolism.
