Oh Rusty- you’re so smart! I have no doubt this is going to be a very popular theme (and potential segment) with the premiere of that new Alice in Wonderland movie. (BTW it stars none other than my future husband – Johnny Depp! lol )

There’s the signature background rich in values and colors! Love the way you tied in the eyes of the comical feline with the beautiful color. Will be up to see your opening today at Studio 14 to get another visual fix of your color palette.

As an animal lover who has just gathered up bits and pieces for another CHILLER AUCTION to be held for the benefit of those furry “little things”, I do find this sun absolutely charming — and what with the potential “Alice in Wonderland” tie-in, I only wish that I’d thought of the idea first. Instead, I’m my usual gloomy-doomy global-warming self. So thanks for the bit of whimsy you’ve provided in my life!

William is right on with the “Alice” tie-in….The Cheshire cat was one of my fav characters…..although I have no idea what yupo is…I really enjoyed seeing your smiling sun!

Vikki,
I had planned a cat all along and then it hit me….
Johnny is one of my ex-husbands. We parted on good terms.

Sonya,
His eyes are exactly the background. I painted it first and then laid in the painting of the cat. If you see the actual painting they look like marbles.
Thanks for coming to the reception today. I appreciated the support!!

William,
You gave me a good idea. I think I will donate this painting to a cat shelter here in the area to sell at a fund raising auction or I will auction it off and give them the proceeds. One way or the other, its theirs.

Linda,
I really like the cheshire cat too. This was a quirky piece for me.
Yupo is a brand name for a plastic sheet that looks like paper. It is most often used with watercolor, but you have very little control since the paint and water lay on the surface and roll around.
I used a watersoluble oil paint on the background. Let it set up then used different mediums for the sun.

Rusty,
I like the depth in the background…its probably my quirkiness, but I see some faces in there- in the top left corner. The cat’s expression is so alluring, Sunday Morning will shine brightly with this one!

Gail,
There is a face there. The background is very interesting as the light travels through the paint and bounces back of the white yupo.

Rusty,
Rusty, I love cats, CBS Sunday Morning, animal causes, and love, love your painting! I enjoy how your cat pops out from your mineral, glacier, sea, plant life and animal background (the top, left hand corner looks like a magical ape to me).
I, too have a wonderful and loving rescue cat.
Best of Luck!
