Very 3d Dana. I first thought it was actually mask -sand color on sand color- not a painting.
As said, “Snaggle tooth back at cha”

love the wink of the eye. Ya know, fore I had my teeth fixed had the biggest space in the front two. Never laughed without sticking my hand up to cover my mouth. The grandkids are loosing their front teeth now and just love to see em laugh and grin. Am with Vikki, actually thought you had done a clay piece and photographed it in the sand!

I agree with Vikki – it looks like a real mask in sand. Beautiful work.

Thank you all! I can see how the mask looks like a sculpture. Did not occur to me before. It’s done in an indirect painting technique that relies on glazes and smooth, smooth value transitions. And I also used imitation gold leaf in the background, which seems to mimic the color of the mask. This is one of my favorite Balinese Masks.

Sublime. Your painting evokes and interesting response from the viewer. I can imagine the conversations that this piece could generate.
