Peta, so nice to meet you. The work catches your eye by the use of the light. Anyone who has done watercolor knows just how difficult it is to not only “save the whites” but to keep the colors fresh. Looking forward to more work from you..

Welcome to the Artist Challenge, Peta! When your work is in thumbnail size there is actually an illusion that occurs. The detail tightens up and it looks almost photo real. Wonderful piece, beautiful earthy color palette and well done!

I agree with all of the above. The balance between light and dark is lovely and soft, lots of light coming back through the paper. Always a brave thing to do, a self portrait. This one is a great success. Just have to get ready for the next challenge now, can’t stop when you’re on a roll.

What lovely and encouraging comments. It’s inspiring to get such a response from experienced artists as I’m still very much a beginner. Thank you all very much.
