From Rusty: The rhododendron blossom is my mother-in-law, fallen in the stages of dementia. The leaves, in their various stages of decay are her lost memories. As a family we endeavor to embrace who she is as it changes every day..

This is really beautiful and I so love detail like this. Even looking at it as a large jpg. I was dumbfounded that’s watercolor. It looks like an oil or acrylic.

And you comment on your stimulation for the work is heartwrenching. She’s very fortunate to be loved so dearly by her family and portrayed in this way.

A beautiful painting made even more so by the symbolism which I completely understand and relate to. Before I say anything else, I love the painting, the essence of the chosen elements captured so well, but decay, dementia, all so sad. Lynne, my wife has just left the house to visit her mother who has just been transferred to a rehabilitation ward, involving physio etc. She was suffering from dementia which of course was getting worse by the week, but then she had a stroke while here on holiday. She is physically recovering quite well from the stroke, movement and speech coming back so well but the dementia now much, much worse. Heartbreaking. All we can hope for now is that she feels as safe and secure in herself as possible. This is where friends and family come in. So important for her feeling of well-being. So important also when we have the ability as artists to express how we feel in images, as words aren’t always enough. A beautiful picture for every reason.

Rusty, I, too, couldn’t believe this was done in watercolor, there are so many stunning details!

After reading the meaning behind it, I looked again, and it was definitely a more enhanced experience. I feel for you and for you, Ray and your families. Yes, heartbreaking.
