From Vikki:
This work has nothing to do with ‘Gone with the Wind. I could stretch the meaning and tell you it represents something to that effect… but it’s a simply filler. You’ll notice a couple of the pieces in our wee gallery that fall into that category.
You see these are some of the artists that help me fill the gallery when we don’t have many submissions. They grab whatever they have, post it- just to keep the Challenge going and their online presence constant in the search pages. They know a secret- kind of a confidence that we all share: If you give up- you will most certainly fail.
The economy will change. Don’t give up. We need you, dear ‘Confidants‘.

I like the relationship implied in this painting. What are they talking about? I have enjoyed your chair series and have often gone to your website to see them.

Vikki,
This is beautifully done. Love the highlights, and details. Who are the condifidants? This creates a story in my mind right away. She seems colorful, playful and engaging, almost as if she would be looking over her shoulder back at the viewer. He is a bit more formal, conventional and gentlemanly. There I go dreaming again…..

Thanks Gail and Rusty. There is a story that goes with this painting. I did it a couple years ago based on an experience I had. You’d be surprised. Not what you think.
This is the link to the blog story; http://redchair-vikkisblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/my-dearest-confidant.html

Well, Vikki, do tell. I told you mine now you tell us yours, if it’s not too personal of course. I see this as exactly ‘gone with the wind’. Is it not two empty chairs where once sat two full people? Any way, I like the picture a lot, once again mysterious and evocative. Not what I’d call a ‘filler’.

Thanks Ray. I did this a few years back and I was in my overt ‘symbolism’ mode! lol The Red Chair Series was actually quite well recieved and they sold almost as quickly as I completed them. This was one of my favorites because of the story behind- yet have now found I’ve kept in my personal collection long enough.

You know share your love of the artist and so fitting for this piece. the tucked in quality of the two dynamic chairs invite intimacy. Excellent to have the link back to the story from your blog!

I know those chairs! They make me ponder if their silent conversation is gone with the wind as close confidents don’t keep secrets.
The realism is amazing Vikki, and will check out the office chairs when I return to work.

Well, when I saw it, I thought the chair’s occupants had fled, gone with the wind. Like Ray, my brain instantly created a story! It’s a beautiful painting – the colors, the rendering, the composition – the solidity of those chairs is really felt, and the questions they pose, facing each other like that, keeps me coming back…

Thanks Karin- It is interesting when we go into a room and see empty chairs where a meeting was held still sitting as their occupants left them. They hold the energy of the conversation. What secret they could tell, huh?

Thanks Cheryl and Sonya. I don’t know that I was actually shooting for realism ..I’ve just always found chairs so symbolic. One of the first I did in this series was called the ‘Individual’. It was long canvas with 5 chairs sitting in a row faced forward towards the viewer. The chairs were all the same except one that was painted red. A city council man from Florida bought it for his office. I really like that,

Vikki, I want the red one and aspire to have one some day
