FRONTIER TRIBUTE CLARION:
October 30, 1873 Madam James Patterson, 26 years of age, stated that Sunday evening she heard a ruckus on her property. She went to the door with her rifle and saw what she described as a no-good mangy intoxicated coyote walking around on two feet singing cowboy songs and making obscene gestures towards her person. For fear of her life and the lives of her EIGHT children she shot and killed the threatening coyote before it could enter her home and assault her or worse.

To her anguish she discovered the coyote was actually her dear husband, Mr. Patterson. Service will be held on Monday morning at the Saloon, James Patterson’s favorite meeting place. No investigation will be done in that this was clearly a tragic accident.

Widow Patterson is one of the ladies leading the referendum to legalize the distribution of birth control information , a direct violation of the Comstock Laws in the Great Territory of Okalahoma.

Hi Sonya- It’s the first thing I thought about when I examined the original photo- thus my story. lol That ‘mother ‘ doesn’t look to be 30 years old and with that brood of kids? The eldest child looks to be at least 16. He got the start of a beard…which you unfortunately can’t really see in this small format.

And you have to check my blog. Sharing info about ‘Birth control’ methods was actually illegal.; considered pornographic and immoral. lIt occured to me that they’re may other methods of birth control that were more reliable. lol

This is so intruiging! I keep coming back for one more look. Love the story

    Hi Keith,
I fathom I should have done a tighter shot on my family. They’re features are totally lost at this size but I felt I needed to show the entire painting. The thing that was interesting is that each showed such a unique personality in their expressions. Only the oldest girl had a little smile when the camera finaly captured them.

Vikki! You made me laugh, then gasp, then sigh with relief. I’m in the habit now of going to your blog first to read…interesting and concerning. And I have always thought that in the gallery view, your paintings strike me as a photograph and so just adds to my pure amazement of your work.

I’m off to see the detailed image and the 16 year old’s beard :)

As I said in the detail – this painting just didn’t photograph well. It has way to many subtle values that just blend togeather and the camera just can’t see. Lighter values just became white in the jpg…and there’s actually no pure white in the compostion. I’m sure my prof. art photographer will be able to deal with it better than my $100 Kodak camera did. lol

You are so funny, you fuss over the poor photography and we are struck with the amazing painting. Could we take it if it looked any better, I think not!!! Oh my gosh, this is incredible.

I love the feet. The older kids have shoes but the young ones have not.
