From Vikki:
“Years ago I saw Christmas paper glint near the edge of my courtyard. Someone had tossed something over the locked gate onto the stones. The package was heavy and wet from the rain.. huge chucks of shattered plaster fell from my hands to the ground. I know what your thinking… “ TO READ THE REST, PLEASE VISIT MY BLOG.

Wow, Vikki – love this one. The textures and flowers – remind me of the book I’m reading – Mortal Love, by Elizabeth Hand. About the Faerie world. Your piece has that magical feel.

Vikki,
Lovely ambiance in this piece. Dramatic with gorgeous roses. I want to take a walk in this garden…have to go to your site to read the story.

Thanks Dana and Gail. The story is not my best. I have a better one on the Inferno. I use the pin name Ann Field (like no one knows it’s me. lol)

there are some pieces that I sit a while with. straining to smell the rose fragrance, the curve dance of porcelain smooth finish; the whisper dew left from the early morn mist. This sun of yours blooms on all levels Vikki.

This is an exquisite masterpiece! I love the flowers that had brought out the warmth within the sun, I would also love to have a walk in this wonderful garden =D

Thanks Lisa, Sonya and Riika- Bit different for me this year. I’ve always loved for the look of the old California Orange Growers calendar art and I was attempting to immulate that busy 1930′s- 40′s sort of styling. (The face of this piece is actually based on a plaster garden art a friend gave me years ago. )

I did not think this was a painting at first, I thought it was 3-dimensional art. Such depth you obtained and I love how you did all the suns “rays.” The roses are a wonderful addition and I love the little blue flowers scattered about. Very nice!

I think your sun has been turned to stone, did she look directly upon the face of Medusa?
In shine or stone she is stunningly beautiful.

Powerful painting that looks to me like a sculpture, she shows so much emotion.

Hi Nancie- Thanks. I worked on this Christmas week and it was cold, rainy and heavily overcast here. It gave me a chuckle to realize that kind of came out in this painting also.

Hi again Rusty. It does have a bit of a Medusa quality! To funny. And I was going for a polished stone texture. As I got into I just let it be what the painting preferred.

Hi Rina- thank you for your comment and we’re so glad you joined us.

Vikki, a bit late to the party here…but I enjoyed your full story and I agree with Rina about your sun’s expression. I feel as if I blink it will come alive (reminds me of a Doctor Who episode, ‘Blink’ with the Weeping Angels), but not in a scary way with yours! I especially love the little blue flowers.

Thanks Sarah- With the loss of my sister Kerry still with me when I did this painting- I just couldn’t do a ‘happy sun painting’ like I normally do. But as I did it – I told myself that’s okay. Every painting doesn’t need to be a happy. It’s okay to go somber on occasion.
