From Lelan: Tying in the significance of the trees in “What Dreams May Come” and my own special twist on the unattainable goal of solace and relief from the demons that stalk our dreams; you keep moving towards it, desperate for respite, but it never gets any closer. I present to you “Shade Tree”, may you find rest beneath her branches should she let you approach her.

And may she never be cut down with the blade that holds her image. Very pretty and great idea Lelan!

I like the subtle colors of the painting. The “tree” evokes a feeling of sustaining life. The choice of purple adds a meditative element to the peace. Its nice.

I reserve my trees for my more pensive moments, it is true. I seek the solace I yearn for by trying to create some of my own for others to take comfort in. I’m happy I have acvcomplished that wit this piece.

Trees are held to be sacred and magical by many cultures. They are a natural symbol of dynamic growth, regeneration and seasonal death. I like the juxtaposition of the painting of the tree on the blade. (I see it as cutting through to new growth and regeneration. The white opening in the middle is indicative of this.) I agree with Vikki – great idea Lelan!

Lelan, I echo all above me. I appreciate whenever art is laid on the unexpected.

Magical. There really is something truly wonderful that happens when we are in the presence of such a magnificent tree as this. I’m sure they have souls! What a great image, Lelan.

Just making sure, here, but everyone knows that’s a painting ON a saw blade, not a painting OF a saw blade, right? Just clarifying cause I don’t want to be taking credit for capturing the detail of the saw blade’s structure.. my hands are nowhere near steady enough for all that.

I think it’s pretty obvious that’s a painting on a saw blade you Silly Man! lol

What I also like (including all the things mentioned) is the dabbling blues across the surface and the striations you put in the green ground below.

BTW- do you have to weld some sort of hook and wire attachment on the back?

I usually include a shelf / table stand with the blades for display on a hearth or somesuch. Once I get the resources and space to actually get it done, I’ll be setting them in 1″ thick clear epoxy blocks, so they can be enclosed and displayed on the wall in hangable shadow or collector’s boxes.

Or maybe just pressed real tightly in a floating frame, for weight concerns – I’ll have to play with it.

You know, it would also be really pretty on simple easel.
