From Madison:
Every once in awhile I want to paint something after Alponse Mucha. He had such a delicate, soft touch to his work an really painted such beautiful dreamy looking women. Here we have 2 beauties from two different Mucha paintings, with several alterations.
“Summer” painted 1896, is the title of Mucha’s beauty leaning on the chair back , lower left. I his painting her eyes were open but since I have both women dreaming obviously I had to paint them closed. What better Mucha painting to use as reference for the other beauty in the window but Mucha’s painting “Night” painting also 1896. I always found Mucha’s work to have a very dreamy affect. Take a look at some of the back grounds he painted behind his subjects and you will see what I mean. In his painting “Night’ here, the moon is shining through the tress on a moonlit night. It may be difficult to see that detail in this photo so you may want to visit some of the links below to check out his beautiful work. This painting has that classical, yet Art Nouveau, typical Mucha style.
Tender is The Night with two beautiful woman created by and dreaming of their creator, Alphonse Mucha. To read more about Alfons Maria Mucha-please visit To read the whole story please visit MY BLOG.

Hi Madison,
Wow ! This is a gorgeous piece and it definitely has a dreamy quality. Interesting you chose a red palette- blues being the expected for night …but the read really works so well and definitely paid off! I’m sure Mucha would be flattered.

Thanks so much Vikki.
Yes, I guess blue would be the normal choice of color for night. However, since Much chose these specific colors for his painting “Night” I felt this was a good choice.

Mucha is pretty much a god in my eyes, (well,… one of many for me, Burne-Jones being another) He was a true master of sensuality and nature. I love your interpretation. Beautiful!!
I think your painting has a quality of Matisse about it too, particularly though very different, one of his called ‘La Musique’.

Madison, so richly layered…I agree, perfect for nighttime. I like how it seems as if they will wake at any moment.
