From Rusty: Poets have long considered the nightingale as symbol of a poet.
Shelly wrote in his “A Defense of Poetry”:
“A poet is a nightingale who sits in darkness and sings to cheer its own solitude with sweet sounds; his auditors are as men entranced by the melody of an unseen musician, who feel that they are moved and softened, yet know not whence or why.”
“Tender is the night” is a lyric in John Keats’ “Ode to a Nightingale”.

Rusty-
Sweet, sweet nightingale swings her song. Really gorgeous detail on the bird and feathers. As always- beautiful work.

Rusty, glad you’re back, have you been away or was it me not paying attention. Such a beautifully sensitive image. I didn’t know until recently, since I moved to France and began spending much more time out doors under the night sky, that all birds sing in the night, but the nightingale has the most magical song of all. A magical painting.

Ray, I envy that you have the nightingale to hear. We don’t have them here in the states. Near our home we have night time sounds: a pack of coyotes are in the nearby woods. (They yap and howl) Of course, we have lots of other sounds. What makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up is times when the only sound I hear is the wind through the branches. Oh, a nightingale would be welcomed then.
I’ve been HBB (home but busy). I’ve been checking in and enjoying the challenges as an observer.

Thanks Vikki,
I had intended to NOT paint in detail. But I am what I am and I had to. And now, I am glad that I did.
