From Lelan: Rebirth. Starting over. New beginnings. Living to fight another day. Whatever you call it, we’ve all experienced it. That moment something breaks through the bleak hopelessness of catastrophe and lets you know there are still reasons to push on and maybe even smile a little. This piece was finished in early February; yet it wasn’t until the morning of March 21st that I was able to own the intent of this piece for myself. May your own glimmer of hope not be long in coming

**Lelan has a heartfelt story he did for the April Love theme on Inferno. Unfortunately we canceled our writers gallery this week because Inferno is moving to a brand new big website next week.

Lelan’s story is posted on a display page of the old Inferno. It’s a must read. Please GO HERE to read No F*cking Way Did That Just Happen….

    Lelan-
It’s a little heart song . Love the layers and depth of textures. You know this would be a brilliant piece to offer copyright for books.

It would look pretty cool on an entire truckload of books… one wonders which genre? The truly odd thing is that at first glance, the painting and verse really don’t seem to fit. Once one allows themselves to be pulled into both the nuance of the piece and raw emotion of the narrative, it seems to click in an unexpected way.

I see it on the cover of a leather bound book. Wouldn’t that be cool?
*Your signature by the base of the tree looks like it’s part of the detail.

Lelan, I especially love bare trees and especially when depicted with character like yours here.

Trees that wait for the spring’s warmth and light stand with such strength and endurance during the coldest and sometimes harshest of winters. It is without their leaves that we see their character in detail. I identify so often with your barren trees, for I too wait for a warmer season.

In this painting, I notice the smaller branch coming off to the right. For me, it is as if this seperating is a starting of something new or perhaps more….I can see the slightest blue in the sky, opening up.

Sometimes we see life as if looking through a fog and yes, it does sometimes clear. I understand the painting very well. Enlightening and thought provoking.

Rusty, I am a huge fan of how much of a fan you are of my trees (does that make me sound arrogant?). After I complete your facebook prize package, I have something in mind I’m sure you’ll be an even bigger fan of. As always, much love for the support, my friend.

Rina, that is an interesting interpretation of the offshoot, and I like it. Originally it was intended to depict a grievous wound to the tree (in keeping with the narrative you’ll find by clicking on “GO HERE” above) that, although devastating and potentially fatal, has not preventing the scrappy sapling from pushing through the calamity and refusing to quit growing. Again, your interpretation fits as well.

Ray, thank you for the respect evident in your post to this. You’re no slouch, either, and having the respect of my peers is still a little unusual to me- so thank you for yours – you have mine as well.

Sarah- thanks, first of all, for finding a way to include my written piece somehow in this challenge. That was a huge gesture and it’s import is not lost on me, so thank you sincerely for publishing it. Thanks, also, for your post here. Even as confused as I still am over the popularity of the simplest pieces I have in my repertoire, I must admit a bit of a smile finds my face every time a new fan of “The Lelan Trees” emerges. :)

(Apologies to Sarah, Mistress of the Inferno… in light of your efforts to make sure my writing had a venue here, it seems crass and uncouth that I have yet to acknowledge your input for this piece. I assure you that I intend no slight, I simply thought I had already responded to your post. But since I have just realized that that is not the case, allow me to make amends.)

Oh Lelan, I’m sorry I had meant to come back again sooner to check on comments! How kind of you to mention and it is always my honor to be the caretaker of artist’s words (when chosen to share), and we are so happy that you are sharing yours with us :)
