From Rusty:April usually brings daffodils, an early sign of spring. I have attempted to paint them many times and have always failed. It is the translucent nature of the petals that is so hard to maintain while capturing the light and dark contrast.
I loved the one with the torn trumpet and the way it reveals what is on the inside of the flower. Its like people, sometimes you can’t know what is in them until they are wounded.

Rusty,
Absolutely perfect. I noticed the little imperfection in the forward daffodil before I even read your description and thought that was so clever. They are really hard to paint but you’ve certainly mastered them.

Regal in its simplicity, this piece is the epitome of the innocent yet unrelenting force which accompanies all forms of new life. Well done, Rusty – truly moving.

Lelan,
For as fragile as the appear it is amazing that they come up while the weather can still be harsh. I thoroughly enjoyed painting them. I think in a way, I feel like I have a new life too.

Thank you Sarah,
The story that I tell myself about the florals with imperfections is as important at the painting itself. It is always my hope that it also comes through.

Rusty,
I have been looking at your painting over and over because your painting looked familar and it took me a while to realize why. Your painting reminds me of paintings that were done by the Old Dutch Masters. Beautiful Work.
