From Lelan:< Morpheus, brother to Phanatos (Fantasy) and Phobos (Fear), is the Greek deity entrusted with shaping the dreams of royalty and warriors – humans who, in turn, have been entrusted with the stewardship and protection of Man. As of late, he has been a bit lacking in his job performance and the leaders of men have been becoming steadily less inspired and less conscious of the true nature of their responsibilities. Here, all of the necessary elements of his trade have been assembled in one place and a call to duty has been issued; all that is needed is for him to return to his given charge.

This piece is the epitome of what drives my work. It was won as a custom piece by an extremely talented illustrator and tattoo artist, and intended as a focal point for his creative genius while working on HIS custom pieces (last I heard from him, it serves its purpose with vigor). The strict symmetry, the physically impossible simultaneous appearance of both lunar and solar total eclipses, the aggravatingly elusive dimensionality and depth(?) of the platform which supports the enigmatic Sphere of Unknown Substance; every aspect of this piece is meant to ignite the kinds of questions and visualizations that are the hallmark of both the gifted and the insane. Just as the imperial “me” of the piece is calling out to Morpheus to get back to work, so am I, the actual self, calling out to peers and viewers alike to take what has been provided and build an amazing story of their own.

I am pulled into the view just beyond the platform. I think that is my natural inclination, “what is beyond?”. It is the columns and platform that reveals that there is an intelligence to the story.

Great concept! would you believe I didn’t know the story of Morpheus? lol

What I always love with your work is the textures you create; like the center band with dripping contrast and the texture on the platform and stones. It really draws us in and creates depth.

The quality of your work is stunning. Expressive and thought provoking. A very distinctive style.
