From Vikki:….It happened on May 28th. I had gone deep into the woods early that morning hoping to find a landscape or earthen subject to paint. As I traversed trees and thickets, I could hear something following me and feel eyes on me. I assumed it was an animal and prayed it wasn’t predatory. I carried no weapon. Only my paint and canvas…….. To read the rest of this story please visit the Inferno: A Writer’s Challenge

You created her in such a way that there could be no question but to know that she is an extraordinary creature. Even at rest, to have her hair and ribbons to be floating so gracefully up. Wonderful use of color and light.

Thanks Rusty. I had thought to make her totally green but then reconsidered thinking that may be a bit over top. You’ll have to read my story about her on the Inferno. Sometimes pretty little things can be dangerous.

As with the beckoning allure of the song of the Sirens, oftentimes is the arrogant soul drawn to its doom by the pull of indefinable beauty. How callous and presumptuous are we mortals to equate purity and beauty with frailty. And the accompanying story is a work onto itself. Well done on both counts, Vikki.

Hi Lelan- Thanks. There’s a painting done by an artist by the name of Waterhouse in the 1800′s that I always loved. Nine Wood Nymphs are in a pond and pulling some mortal man into their world. Beautiful yet frightening is such a strange way.

    How gracefully lovely she is….
    Ethereal and airy…..

Beautiful work with the Acrylics, it is a medium I love using and your choice of colors are few but what an impact.

Vikki, I am in love with her! Her hair, her green skin highlights, what she’s wearing, nature around her arm, her position, her expression, her background…and I also noticed that she is placed on the path in such a way that gives a depth that draws in all that gaze upon her!

    Thanks Sarah-
I had a lot of fun with her. The myth says Wood Nymphs (Sprites) are seductive to mortal man. They are described as ‘natures life giver’s’ and woe men into their web like spiders.

Frequently they’re portrayed as green little critters (almost leprechaun-ish) who blend into their surroundings. I thought about all this and decided I’d approach it a bit different. On first glance, my wood nymph would appear to be a beautiful girl, that no man could resist. But as you look closer you realize- she’s not a girl at all ..he, he, he.
