Admit it!  We all do it.  There’s a lot of junk art sites online. THEY ONLY WANT OUR MONEY!!!
We put our  link on them, hope it will add to our traffic and never go the site again.  There’s at least 100 artists linked to the Challenge like that.

You get my reminders twice a month. I’m sure many of you have them sent directly to your junk mail folder.  (No worries. I do the same with a 90% of what I get. ) But I’d like  to tell you what my site is -if you have a minute?  If you're linked to me- you owe me that!

We don’t try to teach you anything on The Artist Challenge. You’re already a pro and certainly don’t need our input.  We don’t demand anything of you. We’re artist too and we hate that as much as you do!

I’ve been a professional artist for 30 years. When I first started doing the Challenges with my friend - I was like …“Okay, I’ll try it -just to placate you!“    Oddly, and in short order-  I felt something like an explosion go off in my brain.

To be completely honest with you, I equated the experience tantamount to an intense exercise class that I was finally OUTSTANDING IN for the first time in my life! It was my forte and  I was a creative storm to be reckoned with!

It’s this simple: As artists our biggest enemy is block. We exhaust an idea/concept /series and then flounder trying to find the next thing to get us inspired/ motivated. We look at everything and ANYTHING just preying we’ll find something!

This I can promise you- The Challenges bring you out of the block quicker than anything you’ll find. We simply give you a subject- an exercise to fill your brains, if only for the interim. You can do the theme in any way you choose and in any medium. The party favor?  Your old creative warehouse door opens  and you’ll be off and running again like you never expected!
.
We have two themes a month. One is free and one pays the light bill. ($7) . You choose what works for you.  Three’s no subscription, pressure or obligation to do every theme.

Try it.  Placate me.  I dare you.

In the interest of casting the net wide while being careful to dodge the weeds and rocks, I've forwarded this to several of the artists, organizations, and publications, that I deal with on a regular basis. Part admonishment to current members and part recruiting drive, I have no qualms about helping Vikki grow and expand a potentially career-making resource for the benefit of all of us members who recognize the Challenge for what it is: a proving ground; a crucible where the power of your work can be either forged and proven or burnt out and discarded. What we choose to do with what we develop here solidifies our respective bodies of work and focuses our creative strengths, and I for one and greatly appreciative. Keep up the good work, Vikki! I got your back...

Smiley Well, we would be if we'd all learn that cooperation and networking carry us a lot farther than spinning our wheels with blinders on...

I've been getting a lot of email reponses from members and thought you might enjoy reading some of them:

Hi Vikki,
I LOVE the Artist's Challenge. It is a great site and your challenges are, well, actually challenging. Makes me think. In fact, it makes me think so much I don't get my idea in gear until a day or two before the due date. Wink

So a BIG thank you for all your hard work at wrangling all of us wayward creators, and I, for one, will participate on a regular basis. I've said it before, but darn it, I mean it this time. Which means I need to start painting now for the next Challenge due date.

Warmly, Dana

HAHAHAHA! Yup. I've had those moments before. "It's ok, I'm sure I have an image for that Challenge somewhere." "Crap. Nothing fits. Oh well, I'll just paint something for it when it gets closer as I have time." "SON OF A ...!!!! That's due WHEN?!" You're not alone, Dana.
