Someone wrote  via my blog asking if I knew ‘what Master works were  used in the movie What Dreams May Come.’   The answer is NONE.  All Master works you see in movies are copies of the original master made by artists specifically for the movie‘s production. The liability insurance would be prohibitive and it just isn’t done.

And the most shocking thing- Once the movie is complete THOSE COPIES HAVE TO BE IMMEDIATELY DESTROYED.  It’s actually a legal requirement.  (In the movie Da Vinci Code, the production company was allowed to shoot on the premises of the Louvre Museum…but that was it!  You weren’t seeing Mona doing multiple cameos.)

A friend of mine, Janis Cashetta, is one of the many artist that do this type of work for productions on a freelance basis.  One of her most exciting jobs- she had an opportunity to do  Degas Sculpture “ Little Dancer Age 14 Years”  for a movie. (photo below) Talk about a heart break knowing this copy would be melted down after the fact! All Janis has is photo album of her work for the movies.

That is interesting, I wasn't aware of this. I can imagine this heartbreak! Kind of reminds me of cake artists/decorators that create with the inherent purpose of it being destroyed/eaten  Cry I just think that would bother me too much...
