We’ve had an interesting artist dilemma going on in my neighborhood. For whatever reason a local artist, Mark Patterson , decided to create and BOLT a huge elaborate mosaic on an interior support wall of an under-pass that leads into Encinitas- a small beach side town outside of San Diego.
His colorful mosaic depicts the Virgin of Guadalupe surfing a wave and the words "Save the Ocean." It was put up shortly before Easter and has drawn a following with scores coming to see it in Encinitas.
Encinitas city official fined Mark for putting up the unauthorized piece on city property and said it was graffiti under the law. The public was outraged in support of Mark's art and don't want the city to remove it.
Regardless, city officials say the artwork is graffiti under the law and
must go. Mark, of course

, became outraged and has hired a lawyer threatening to sue Encinitas if they damage his work during removal.
So- Encinitas hired the Los Angeles-based
Sculpture Conservation Studio to find a way to take it down without damaging it. When they examined it -they said it would be impossible to remove without damage. Yikes!
So the battle goes on…but Madonna is sure to come down one way or another.
