Art Challenge #8: Spring Fever

May 2nd, 2009 · 10 Comments

Spring a comin‘, Captain! Tis the fevers in you head;
And why you be so senseless and work is to be dread.

Pretty flowers all around, making joy to bring in May;
Even birds and bees a hummin’ on this Spring Fever day!

Trees a blooming, suitors swooning, every boy and girl do sigh;
Children playing and new babes birthin’ in every Mother’s cry.

This season comes each year …exactly at this time.
And our paintings cheer and sing Spring Fever’s endless chime.

Art Challenge #6: The Fool

March 21st, 2009 · 15 Comments

Ahoy Mates, Wenches -and especially you Fools with your Money,
The finest of artists present for your behest our March theme- “The Fool”

“They said he was a fool, a simpleton and buffoon.
He trifled in mirth and toyed in idle sport and swoon.

He was silly, stupid and wasted time with worthless play,
The brunt of jokes, he was easily deceived in a shameful and mortifying way.

But it is this fool I must defend.
You see, for me he was my friend.”

The Fool

A fool I have been called.
I dream too often, of foolish things.
I follow my foolish heart.
Foolishly I pull for the underdog.

A fool, have I been compared too.
I strive for my foolish dreams
I give my foolish heart anything.
I follow honor instead of greed.

A fool, proudly I am.
Those dreams have given me direction
That heart has been my happiness.
My prosperity is my pride, not any currency.

Fair sailing now,

Captain Mike and The Pub Wench

Signs from the Body

My shoulders
Bear the weight of my heart.
They tighten and scream with my tensions.
Sometimes I want to live without people,
For the sadness of rejection is too much …
Why should I put myself
In the way of this melancholy?
Dare to trust?
Should I dare it?
Trust is a comfort which,
When misused,
Leaves open the path to disintegration
Of the spirit.
Do any benefits warrant
The risk?
Do I dare again?
At this moment … NO!
Solitude seems safe and manageable.
But can we betray even ourselves?
