Art Challenge #53- QUIXOTIC

June 25th, 2011 · 1 Comment

“Blessings on him who invented sleep, the mantle that covers all human thoughts, the food that satisfies hunger, the drink that slakes thirst, the fire that warms cold, the cold that moderates heat, and lastly the common currency that buys all things, the balance and weight that equalizes the shepherd and the king, the simpleton and the sage.”

The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha

Art Challenge #51- Myths, Legends or Other Worldly

May 28th, 2011 · No Comments

Will you walk into my parlor?”
said the spider to the fly;
“Tis the prettiest little parlor that you ever did spy.
The way into my parlor is up a winding stair,
And I have many curious things to show ..when you are there.

“Oh no, no!” said the little fly,
to ask me is in vain;
For who goes up your winding stair
can never come down again.”
Walk Into My Parlor by Mary Hewitt (1829)

Art Challenge #50- The Flower Show

May 7th, 2011 · 4 Comments

All the names I know from nurse:
Gardener’s garters, Shepherd’s purse,
Bachelor’s buttons, Lady’s smock,
And the Lady Hollyhock.

Fairy places, fairy things,
Fairy woods where the wild bee wings,
Tiny trees for tiny dames–
These must all be fairy names!

Art Challenge #49- April Love

April 23rd, 2011 · No Comments

“April love is for the very young.
Every star’s a wishing star that shines for you.
April love is all the seven wonders.
One little kiss can tell you this is true.

Sometimes an April day will suddenly bring showers;
Rain to grow the flowers for her first bouquet.
But April love can slip right through your fingers.
So if she’s the one ..don’t let her run away.”

We’ve had blistering winter and spring fever is in full flurry – hitting all of us hard this year. It’s SO difficult to spend these beautiful spring days working.

We had a guest with us this week that said he just didn’t see art patrons or collectors in the brick n’ mortar galleries anymore.  He said THEY JUST AREN’T BUYING ORIGINAL ART from traditional galleries and many are going out of business. HE’S RIGHT. It’s happening everywhere. But contrary to his claim, patrons haven’t disappeared into some ominous black hole never to found again.  THEY ARE ALL ONLINE TODAY. (Last week I acquired a new commission, sold an original on Monday and then sold 4 more originals and a giclee on Friday. I have never been busier.)

We’d like to remind all of you with the greatest respect, short of the Holiday months, April, May and June are the biggest ART sales months of year. Now is the time for all of us to get new work posted, not just on the Challenge, but on our websites and blogs.

For those that submitted to our little ‘April Love’ gallery we’ll be giving you a free credit for any future recompense theme on the Challenge.

Our next Spring theme is “Flower Show’. Please join us.   Go to the Upcoming Theme Page for details.

Best wishes for a very prosperous 2011 Spring and always know- my heart to yours.

Art Challenge #47- Tender is the Night

March 19th, 2011 · 1 Comment

Although with thee! Tender is the night…
…here there is no light,
Save what from heaven is with the breezes blown
Through verdurous glooms and winding mossy ways..

~John Keats /May 1819

Art Challenge #46- Calm Before the Storm

March 5th, 2011 · 2 Comments

Into each life some rain must fall.
Grey skies are going to clear up…
He became a lightening rod for party criticism.
It’s gonna’ be clear skies from now on!
The boss thundered into the room.
It was a whirlwind romance!
It’s been a little chilly around the office.
She was unsure if her relationship could weather the storm.

Weather has always been a metaphor for life. Even the Bible uses ‘the calm before the storm’ as an analogy for the end of time. But to the artist… weather is something quite different. We know that anyone who only sees the calm before a storm as just a warning, has never stuck around long enough to dance in the rain.

Art Challenge #45- What Dreams May Come

February 19th, 2011 · No Comments

We understand that dreams are just our ‘thoughts’  abstracted and enhanced. It’s also been said for many centuries that artists dip their brushes in dreams and bring them to the canvas. If that’s true -

“Anyone who says you can’t see a thought simply doesn’t know art and never dreamed.”
~variation on a quote by Wynetka Ann Reynolds
